Congratulations to all those who competed last Sunday in the VA Showcase. It was a great opportunity for all to compete on an indoor track and get experience before the AAU National Championships. Hundreds of athletes from across the country competed at the VA Showcase. The House of Speed took about half of our team – 18 athletes and for their first time competing – what a day!
While typically indoor times are a bit slower than outdoor times because of the smaller track and additional curves, I was very impressed to see how our student-athletes rose to the occasion to compete. A few highlights are below:
Skylar Vango – placing 1st in both the 60 meter dash AND the 200 meter dash;
Alexa Charecky – placing 1st in the pole jump AND the triple jump;
Lorelei Freese – placing 3rd in the 1500 meter run AND 3 rd in the 3000 meter run;
Thomas Kim – placing 3rd overall in the 3000 meter run, 4th overall in the 1500 meter run (crushing his personal record by
almost 30 seconds!) and 7th overall in the 800 meter run (crushing his time in the outdoor 800 by 11 seconds!)
Dominic Delancey – placing 3rd in the long jump
Tyler House – placing 6th overall in the long jump
Dillon House – placing 6th overall in the long jump
Paulina Darmenova placing 8th overall in the 1500 meter run
And our first-time Girls 11-12 – 4×200 meter relay team (Sydney Hergenroeder, Courtney Len, Lorelei Freese and Skylar Vango) wowing the crowd and placing 3rd overall!
We also had some terrific showings by many of our athletes who ran personal records in their events including:
Nicholas Bailey – getting a personal record in the 200!
Joshua Kim – getting a personal record by almost 5 seconds in the 1500m
Ronald Trott – crushing his 200 time with a personal record by over 4 seconds!
In summary – I am extremely proud of everyone! As you will see in the meet results, all of the athletes ran times comparable or better to their end of the season times in the 2021 outdoor season. This includes all of our returning athletes from the AAU summer season such as Kaydence Wisner and Elizabeth Porter! This is excellent progress and
means they are starting from an even better place early in the season. The conditioning and experience is really starting to pay off and our student-athletes are now showing so much more confidence in their abilities. Additionally, I was also very happy to see first time competitors such as Isabella Sevier, Dominic Delancey, Skylar Vango as well as some our of returning athletes with more limited experience such as Ronald Trott and William and Logan Carroll compete well in such a large meet. I look forward to working for everyone to further develop as we continue in our season!
A hearty congratulations to All the participants.
In the Running Spirit,
Coach Tanya
